It’s the first weekend in May and the calendar is full to kick off the month! Don’t miss out on a single event with Your Guide to the Weekend by the Jackson County Visitor Center.

Thursday, May 4

Live music at Reed’s Place – Fred Elam will perform at 6 p.m. May 4, at Reed’s Place Steak and Chop Shop, 224 South Chestnut Street, Seymour.


Friday, May 5

Live music at Chateau de Pique – Buck Knawe will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. May 5, at Chateau de Pique Winery & Brewery, 6361 North County Road 760E, Seymour. Stag’s Food Truck will be on site during the event.

Live music at the Seymour Brewing Co. – The 78’s will perform at 7 p.m. May 5, at the Seymour Brewing Company, 753 West Second Street, Seymour.

Friday Night Live – The Alley Katz Band will perform at 7 p.m. May 5, at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, 2001 North Ewing Street, for the first Friday Night Live of the season. Those who attend are welcome to bring coolers and lawn chairs.

Live music at Rails Craft Brew & Eatery – Live music will play at 7 p.m. May 5, at Rails Craft Brew and Eatery, 114 St. Louis Avenue, in downtown Seymour.

Live music at the Eagles – Hewitt & Fink will play at 7:30 p.m. May 5, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 122 East Second Street, Seymour.


Saturday, May 6

Spring Festival – The Houston Christian Church will host a Spring Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6, at the church, 9850 North County Road 750W, Norman. The day will include food, vendors, silent auction, and more. For more information, check the Facebook page or call Melinda at 812-528-0826.

Free Comic Book Day – Lost and Found Toys will host Free Comic Book Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 6, at the store, 113 West Second Street, in downtown Seymour. This is part of a national event where there will be free comics, giveaways, drawings, and store discounts.

Seymour FFA Greenhouse – The Seymour FFA will host its greenhouse sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6, at Seymour High School. The greenhouse is located by the staff parking lot. There will be petunias, begonias, geraniums, grasses, tomatoes, peppers, and more.

Freeman Army Airfield Museum – The Freeman Army Airfield Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. Appointments can be scheduled outside of public hours by calling 812-271-1821. For more information, visit the website.

Scrabble Tournament – The Magic of Books Bookstore and 1852 Cafe will host a Scrabble tournament at 11:30 a.m. May 6, at the store, 115 West Second Street, Seymour. It’s $10 to enter. This year the money raised will go towards buying an individual with Aphasia an Ipad that he can use to help with communication and just all-around help with day-to-day activities. Food Truck Saturday – Food Truck Saturdays will be from 4 to 8 p.m. the first Saturday of each month from May through October at Shields Park in Seymour.  There will be music during the event with 10% or $50 of sales going to the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department for programming.

Barry Crane Memorial Concert & Benefit – The Barry Crane Memorial Concert  & Benefit will be at 4:30 p.m., May 6, Harmony Park, 753 West Second Street, Seymour. The evening will include music from Buck N Rooster, the John Whitcomb Band, and Larry Crane wit the All Star Jam Band. It’s free to attend with donations being accepted. There also will be a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go to Crane’s wife.

Brownstown Speedway – The Scott Patman Memorial race at Brownstown Speedway is scheduled for May 6. This race will feature Super Stocks, ILMS Pro Late Models, Pure Stocks, Hornets, Crown Vics. Click here for ticket information and the website.

Live music at Poplar Street – The Dwight Hendrix Experience will play at 7 p.m. May 6, at Poplar Street Restaurant, 513 South Poplar Street, Seymour.

Live music at Rails Craft Brew & Eatery – Live music will play at 7 p.m. May 6, at Rails Craft Brew and Eatery, 114 St. Louis Avenue, in downtown Seymour.

Live music at Brewskies Downtown – Justyn Underwood will play from 8 to 11 p.m. May 6, at Brewskies Downtown, 117 East Second Street, in downtown Seymour.


Sunday, May 7

Mothers and Others Luncheon – The Mothers and Other Luncheon will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 7, at the Rockford United Methodist Church, 1934 North Ewing Street, Seymour. The afternoon will feature music by Nancy Olson.

Medora Timberjacks – The Medora Timberjacks will host the Owensboro Thoroughbreds for a game at 3 p.m. May 7, at Medora High School. There will be a car show from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the game.

Monday, May 8

Sips & Succulents – The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Sips & Succulents from 6 to 8 p.m. May 8, at Vat & Barrel, 212 East Second Street, in downtown Seymour. The event includes a live demonstration by Ryan Stuckwish of Stuckwish Farm Market, food and more. Beverages will be available for purchase. Must be 21. It’s $50 per person and reservations can be made by calling the parks and recreation department at 812-522-6420 or by clicking here.


Tuesday, May 9

Food Truck United – Food Trucks United will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 9, at the Seymour Area Farmers Market parking lot in downtown Seymour. 10% of proceeds will be donated to the Jackson County Untied Way.


Wednesday, May 10

Nature Time Pre-School – The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge will host Nature Time Pre-School event at 9:30 a.m. May 10, at the refuge visitor center. There is a different theme and activity each month. No registration required.

Dine United – Poplar Street Restaurant will participate in Dine United from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., May 10, at the restaurant, 513 South Poplar Street, Seymour. 10% of sales during that time will be donated to Jackson County United Way.
