Tuesday, July 15th, at 6:30 P.M. we’re hosting a “Push-In ceremony” at Seymour Fire Department Station 3 located at 605 Meadowbrook Dr in Seymour.
This event is to celebrate the arrival and commissioning of our new Ladder 3 firetruck. It’s both a symbolic and community-centered ceremony rooted in firefighting history.
The tradition actually dates back to the 1800s when fire departments used horse-drawn fire pumpers. After returning from an emergency, firefighters had to manually push the heavy wagons back into the firehouse because the horses couldn’t easily back them in. To honor this history, many modern fire departments continue the tradition by ceremonially pushing a new firetruck into the bay during its dedication.
