23rd annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale scheduled May 20-22
The 23rd annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale is scheduled for May 20-22 all along the federal highway in Jackson County.
First organized in 2000, the Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale is a coast-to-coast event. The highway runs from Seymour at the Jennings County-Jackson County line to Brownstown and the Jackson County-Lawrence County line. Many sales take place throughout the county off of U.S. 50 this weekend as well, so be sure to explore!
Times vary from sale-to-sale on what the hours will be.
Participation is open to all who are interested.
There is no central registration for the sale. Simply, people set up yard sales along the U.S. 50 route, coordinator Tom Taylor said.
Vendors are reminded they can’t set up on private land without permission and can’t set up on state right-of-way. Vendors also are asked to be aware of safety needed for pulling off and on the road. Anyone with space to rent is encouraged to advertise in advance.
The Jackson County History Center, 105 North Sugar Street, Brownstown, will have space available for those who wish to sell items there. It’s $10 per table or two for $15. Call Margo Brewer at 812-525-2295 for more information.
Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer reminded residents to approach sales with safety and to keep in mind that traffic may be congested along the roadway.
Meyer suggested giving four second between you and the car in front of you and to be sure to watch for vehicles that are pulling out onto the highway.
“We encourage people to safely enjoy the yard sales this weekend by paying extra attention to congested areas,” he said.
